31 people (adults and children) standing and sitting on school porch and steps. Appears to be some snow on the ground. Deford School was located in today's Clayton Township at the corner of what was later known as West Main and Reed Roads.

Said to have been located in vicinity of the original town of Melita. Per map in 1883 book titled "Lake Huron Shore" by H R Page & Co, Melita was located then on both sides of Fritz Rd, Clayton Twp, Section 34, south of Knight Rd. Photo & information comes from a book donated to ACHS by Ruth Donnelly in memory of her husband William M Donnelly.
